摘  要:20世纪对高等教育发展有重大影响的西方教育流派有自由主义、实用主义、要素主义、永恒主义和存在主义。其中,实用主义和要素主义流派主张大众化的高等教育观,自由主义、永恒主义、存在主义这三大流派则坚持精英主义的高等教育观。虽然各流派所持的精英与大众价值取向各有不同,但本质上都蕴含着明确的教育民主化和现代化思想,对推动世界各国高等教育大众化的发展起到了积极的作用。There were five schools of western education in the 20th Century.They were liberalism,pragmatism,essentialism,perpetualism and existentialism which had an effect on the development of higher education.Among of them,the schools of pragmatism and essentialism proposed the view of point of mass higher education,and the ones of liberalism,perpetualism and existentialism presented elite higher education.In spite of their different view of point,they all imply the thought of education democratization and modernization,which play a positive role in promoting the development of the mass higher education in the world.
