摘　　要：克里奥尔人生活在美国南部的路易斯安那州,种族身份与社会身份的模棱两可将克里奥尔人抛向了一个尴尬的窘境,处在夹缝中的身份困境成为萦绕在历代作家脑海里挥之不去的梦魇。凯特.肖班,"第一个描写藤河地区的克里奥尔作家",在其小说《觉醒》中,真实地揭露了克里奥尔民族身份认同的复杂性,以及克里奥尔人在美国语境下的身份困惑和普遍流行的"白化"现象。本文试图从文本的浅层结构与深层结构去探讨这种民族身份的认同问题以及肖班的书写策略。In Louisiana, there lives a group of people out of the ordinary. They are traditionally known and spoken of themselves as Creoles. The predicament of creoles in constructing their identity becomes the night- mare in Creole writers. Kate Chopin is the brilliant one of the leading writers of American Creole literature. In her novel, The Awakening, Chopin revealed the indefinite identifying characteristic of creoles and depicted their situation at a loss. On the surface structure of the text, Chopin shows her approval of the Creole culture. Yet, Chopin undoubtedly faced the dilemma almost all creoles faced. She depicts the ambivalent condition in a deeper sense.
