Rapid dispersion of oil slick in water is the precondition for oil biodegradation. Bentonite partides modified by suffactant were added into oily water mixture to form oil-mineral-aggregate (OMA) with oil droplets, which enhanced the oil dispersion and biodegradation rates. The impact of different types of modified bentonites on OMA formation efficiency was studied in the lahoratory. The most effective CTAB modified ben- tonite was selected for oil biodegradation experiment. Petroleum degrading strains Microeoecussp HY8 were cultured in the diesel oil and bentonite liquid suspension. The impact of bentonite content on oil degradation was investigated. The results showed that the addition of modified bentonite shortened the half-life period of the oil degradation and increased the degradation rate. The oil degradation efficiency reached 86.6% under conditions of primaU oil concentration of 1 686 mg/L and CTAB modified bentonite content of 400 rag/l,, which was 26.8% higher than that of the sample without any bentonite after 7 days euhivation. The application of modified bentonite whic.h can enhanee the bioremediation of oil polluted water has good application prospects.
