By using the methods of induction and classification, this review attempts to crystallize Stewart's multivalent concept of the poet's freedom and its rich connotations, interpret her suggestive terms, such as "making", "unmaking", "negative freedom", "positive freedom", "poetry", and "language", and touch on the numerous kinds of poetry-related, freedom-related, and making-related elements as represented in her book--in the hope that more light will be thrown on the very nature of poetry, on the secrets of art making, and on the interrelatedness between art and human life.
