摘  要:莱考夫和约翰逊在《我们赖以生存的隐喻》中鲜明地指出,隐喻无处不在、无时不有,隐喻不仅是辞格或曰简单的交际附属品,也是一种由语言承载并凸显的思维方式。文章在将充分的理论考察与足额的例证阐析有机结合的前提下提出:传统的夸张修辞不仅是表层的语词超常组配,更是以一事物描写另一相关事物的认知路径,换言之,夸张的本质是隐喻性的。汉英语言使用者共同的身体结构及其体验范式决定了两种夸张隐喻的趋同性;而中西方民族的文化模型又衍生出跨语言夸张隐喻的差异性。Co - authored by Lakoff and Johnson, the seminal book Metaphors We Live By takes a clear - cut stand that metaphor, existing everywhere and everywhen, is never merely a type of traditional rhetoric, or simply a commu- nicative by - product,but a mode of thinking represented and highlighted through language. It has been postulated, on the basis of integrally combining profound theoretical elaboration with adequate instance explorations, that hyper- bole is not only the unconventional collocation of words at the surface level but also the cognitive path to describing one concept in terms of another. In other words, hyperbole acquires all the cognitive essences of metaphor. Universal body structures and their ensuing experience patterns shared by the oriental and the west decide the metaphorical u- nification, while distinctive cultural models of the two motivate the discrepancies.
