Objective To study the influence of strengthening the intervention in lifestyle of the university faculty to the metabolic syndrome ( MS ) patients on blood pressure, weight control, blood fat and serum glucose. Methods A total of 386 cases were chosen from staff physical examination of Tibet Institute for Nationalities and Shaanxi Energy Vocational College, and then were randomly divided into two groups : Intervention group, 193 cases of drug treatment at the same time to strengthen the life style intervention; Control group in which 193 cases were treated only with drugs, lifestyle, not at intervention. The body mass index, serum lipid, blood pressure and serum glucose were determined in base-line study and after the intervention. Results As to the intervention group, blood pressure, weight control, serum lipid and serum glucose was obviously improved (P〈0.01 or P〈0.05) than before intervention, significantly different from the control group, but no significant difference of BMI and HDL-C was found. Conclusion Life style intervention can reduce serum lipid, blood pressure and serum glucose, which is beneficial to prevent and reduce the incidence of cardiovascular disease, and be one important measure to prevent and control the MS.
