摘　　要："孽障"一词一般用作贬义词。对比霍译本和杨译本《红楼梦》,可发现两个译本对"孽障"一词的理解既有相同之处,也有不同之处,因而在该词的贬义弱化方面呈现出不同特点。因此,译者在翻译过程中,必须结合上下文进行深入分析,只有这样才能产生恰当的译文。＂Nie Zhang＂is usually associated with derogatory sense. However, in the great Chinese classic Honglourneng, this word has different translations. Comparison of the translations by Hawkes and Yang indicates similarity and difference in their understandings. The two English versions vary in weakening the derogatory sense of the word. A translator must take the context into consideration. Only in this way can he make a good translation.
