摘　　要：汉英文字的基本单位为汉字和英文词,这一层面的对比研究目前还比较少,但是根据中国传统语言学对于"字"的重视和中国现代语言学对"字"和"词"的反思,这一对比具有理论基础和可行性。英汉文字的构成都有层次性:汉字由独体而合体;英文词由简单词而派生或复合。它们在表义上具有理据性与无理据、形象性与语法性、模糊性与精确性的区别。而汉字的基本范畴化特征,更是其区别于英文词的重要特点。There are relatively fewer comparative studies on the differences between Chinese characters and English words. However, the comparison has its theoretical foundation and feasibility. The formation of Chinese characters and English words has similarities but with different levels. Different expressive characteristics are discussed in this paper： motivation and non-motivation, visualization and grammar, vagueness and preciseness. Chinese characters are also characterized by basic-level categories.
