摘　　要：剑桥大学历史系美国历史研究中心是全世界最负盛名的美国史研究机构。该中心有着广泛的课程供博士生选择,博士生以三年为期,主要任务是研究一个崭新的课题,并撰写学术论文。博士研究生以自学为主,导师的任务只是帮助学生澄清某些思想,而不是包办一切。The American History programme at Cambridge is continuing to be a popular choice for history scholars. The course on American History is one of the most popular of the graduate options in the Historical Tripos. The purpose of PhD training is to prepare a substantial piece of original research, designed to be completed within three years of study. From the very beginning of the PhD course the student focuses primarily on the writing of the doctoral dissertation. Graduate students in Cambridge are expected to have the capacity and enthusiasm for organising their own research and to work largely on their own initiative. The Supervisor is concerned with helping PhD student to clarify their own ideas, not imposing ideas or interests on him.
