Objective To explore the expression of FAS and Ki-67 in squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck and their clinical significance. Methods Tissue specimens were collected from 60 patients with SCCHHN, Immunohistochemistry method was used to detect the expression of FAS and Ki-67 in these specimens. The expression levels of FAS and Ki-67 were compared among different tissues. Results The positive expression rate of FAS in SCCHN tissues was 43.3 % which was significantly higher than that in adjacent tissues (20.0 %) and normal tissues (10.0%). The positive expression rate of FAS in SCCHN tissues of patients with Grade I , II was higher than that of patients with Grade III. The positive expression rate of Ki-67 in SCCHN tissues was 46.7%, which was significantly higher than that in normal tissues (10.0 % ), and lower than that in adjacent tissues (30.0 % ). The positive expression rate of Ki-67 in SCCHN tissues of patients with Grade I , II was higher than that of patients with Grade III. Conclusion FAS and Ki-67 were meaningful markers of progression of patients with SCCHN. The FAS and Ki-67 may he more helpful to predict the prognosis of patients with SCCHN. FAS and Ki-67 have a significant positive correlation in SCCHN.
