摘 要:林语堂植根于东方,对传统的中国语言文学与历史文化有深刻的理解;同时,他自小开始接触西方宗教与语言文化,成年后更有三十余年在西方国家生活的经历。这种文化背景造就了林氏双重的文化身份与复杂的文化观:一方面,他为满足西方对东方文化的期待而对其本族文化作了相应的修饰甚至曲解;另一方面,他又始终无法割舍对东方的深厚情感。因此,自我东方主义与东方文化情结的二元并立构成了林语堂文化观的重要特征。深入研究其根源与表现形式有助于更客观更全面地研究林语堂。Rooted in the Eastern culture, Lin Yutang has a profound knowledge of Chinese language, literature and history; he started to learn about Christianity and the English language since childhood, and stayed in the West for about 30 years. The cultural background leads to Lin's dual cultural identities and complicated cultural stand: on the one hand, he modified or even misinterpreted the national culture so that satisfied the Western readers' expectation of Eastern culture; on the other hand, he could never deny his attachment to the East. Thus, the coexistence of self-orientalism and an attachment to the Oriental Culture constitute the significant feature in Lin's cultural stand, probing into its source may facilitate a more thorough and objective study of this scholar.
