Objective To investigate the expressions of dysadherin and E-cadherin and their clinical significance in cervical cancer. Methods The mRNA and protein expressions of dysadherin and E-cadherin in cervical cancer tissues were detected by immunohistochemistry and RT-PCR, respectively. Results The expression of dysadherin protein was significantly higher and that of E-cadherin protein was significantly lower in cervical cancer than those in normal cervical tissues, respectively (P 〈 0.05). High expression of dysadherin and low expression of E-cadherin were related to the pathological grade, clinical stage, and the presence of lymph node metastasis of cervical cancer (P 〈 0.05 ), but had nothing to do with age (P 〉 0.05 ). The expression of dysadherin mRNA (1.05 ± 0.14) was higher and that of E-cadherin mRNA (0.64 ± 0.07) was lower in cervical cancer than those in normal cervical tissues (0.91 ± 0.09 and 0.89 ± 0.11 ), respectively. There was negative correlation between the expression of dysadherin and E-cad. Conclusions The combined detection of dysadherin and E-eadherin could be used as a potential marker for the diagnosis of cervical cancer.
