摘　　要：作为教学实践的一种理论依据,语境理论在大学英语教学中具有独特的指导作用,对言语交际活动影响巨大。将语境因素纳入语言教学系统中,有助于确定指示语的所指,推断材料的内容,消除句子的歧义,理解会话含义,选择恰当的语言形式,从而提高学习者的语用能力。Context, namely verbal environment, is the precondition that makes verbal communication go smoothly. With the functions of interpretation, restriction, design and disambiguation, context influences verbal communication greatly. As a theoretical basis of teaching practice, context theory has a directive role in college English teaching. Acting as one part of the language teaching system, context will help students confirm the reference of deixis, deduce the contents to be learned, eliminate ambiguity, understand the conversational implicature and choose a proper linguistic form to improve learners＇ pragmatic competence.
