This paper aims to contextualize Lu Xun's and Lai Ho's literary text and fur thermore to expand the contextualization to the East Asia literary field at the early stages of 20th century. In the East Asian context, the minority nations usually had to be "taught" by Japan to understand the reasons for being oppressed, and to accumulate the force of resist ance. Lu Xun and Lai Ho have both mentioned their memories about how their Japanese teachers influenced them. These two writers of New Literary Movement use the form of prose to record the transnational exchange of knowledge. These two intellectuals from Chi na and from Taiwan have depicted the image of Japanese teachers who have the "character" and "humanistic" personality. The main concern of this paper is to rethink the spirit of metal care between intellectuals and their spiritual dilemma & national complex in the context of crosscultural & transnational exchange of knowledge in the era of imperial expansion.
