Evidence-Based Practice in Radiologic Technology: Curriculum Based on and Continuous Professional Development Gate

摘  要:The radiological imaging technology evolution rhythm is the most rapid one among all allied sciences. The concern over imaging has radically changed through the latest computer and imaging technologies applications. So, the knowledge and skills development are urgent needs. This study will serve as a fascinating golden key to enter the gate of continuous professional development (CPD) when evidence-based practice in radiologic technology (EBPRT) is integrated with e-learning, and serving instructors, students, and radiology technologists. Our knowledge acts as the backbone and broad base when it will be applied well on training and daily practice. The objectives of this study are: (a) to highlight the efficiency of EBPRT and its integration with e-learning technologies as teaching method; and (b) to elucidate the role of EBPRT when it will be added and enforced in the curriculum and how the usage of this recent strategy can best translate to radiologic science educational programs and improving the radiology courses knowledge and learning outcomes, and act as a means for CPD. A prospective and descriptive analytical study was conducted in King Fahad Medical City, Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, during The 3rd Saudi Radiological Technologists Conference in April 2012. The study participants were radiology technologists and radiological sciences teachers. A well-designed questionnaire was distributed among 100 participants. The author explained and clarified to them in separate groups the meaning and concept of EBPRT, the goal of this study, and the contents of the questionnaire which compose of five sections. The data collected as feedback analysis were performed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) software. Results showed that EBPRT integration with e-learning technologies is an effective teaching method, which integrates research, education, and delivery of high quality healthcare, and it should be used in radiological sciences education, training, CPD, and daily practice.
