摘　　要：英语教师的语言基本功对搞好教学十分重要,但在当下却被忽视了,教师基本功呈现下滑态势。本文探讨了出现这种状况的原因以及可能的补救方法。文章还强调了中文基本功对学好英语的重要性,呼吁注重学生和教师的中文基本功训练,以利于其英语学习和今后自身发展。Language skills of teachers of English, believed though important for English teaching, are at present ig- nored and left on the decline. This paper attempts to unravel the e^anses that have brought the issue to the grave state and explore, as a remedy, some possibilities of improving language skills. Also, the paper calls for more attention to the priority of Chinese language skill development for teachers of English, as Chinese and English languages, being vastly different in every sense of the word notwithstanding, are more often than not interrelated in the process of lan- guage learning.
