Objective To study the preventive effects of ginkgo leaf extract agent (ginaton injection) against warm ischemic liver injury in the hepatic grafts from non heartbeating donors in pigs. Methods The pigs underwent 1.5 h hepatic vascular exclusion with venovenous bypass. The animals were divided into 3?groups: control group ( n =11), group 2 ( n =10) receiving ginkgo leaf extract agent and group 3 ( n =9) given PEG1. Agents were given to the pigs by continuous intravenous infusion for 30 min before ischemia. The therapeutic effects were evaluated by test of free radicals, liver function test, blood and tissue biochemistry, and histological analyses. Results The above mentioned parameters in the group 2 and group 3 were significantly improved as compared with those in the control group. But ginaton had stronger anti free radical effect than PGE1. Conclusion Gingko leaf extract agent, which can attenuate warm ischemic liver injury, is a better warm ischemia preventive agent than PGE1.
