Objective To study the expression of E-cadherin ( E-cad ) and γ-catenin(γ-cat) in human colo- rectal carcinoma, and the relationship of their expression with the invasion and metastasis of human colorectal carcinoma. Methods The PV Immunohistochemistry method was used to detect the expression of E-cad and γ-cat in 52 cases of colorectal carcinoma and 20 cases of adjacent normal colorectal tissue. Results The expression of E-cad and γ-cat in colorectal carcinoma was significantly lower than that in adjacent normal tissue ( P 〈 0.05 ). The expression of E-cad was closely related with the differentiatial degree, clinical stage, lymphoid metastases, depth of tumor invasion and distant or- gan metastasis of colorectal carcinoma, and the expression of γ-cat was no significant correlation in depth of tumor inva- sion. The expression of E-cad and γ-cat in colorectal cancer was positively correlated ( P 〈 O. 05 ). Conclusion The ex- pression of E-cad and γ-cat plays an important role in progression, invasion and metastasis of colorectal carcinoma, and the detection of them has important clinical significance for diagnosis, treatment and prognosis of colorectal carcinoma.
