摘　　要：针对许多城市出现用外文拼写中国地名的问题,探讨了语言规划在社会生活中的功能和作用,研究了我国政府城市地名所做的语言规划工作及规定中国地名只能用汉语拼音标注、不能用外文来翻译的意义。Language planning refers to the activities involved in the language management and standardization of the problems existing verbal communication,including status planning and corpus planning. Based on the dichotomy of language planning,a Chinese scholar proposes a function planning,which plans the functions of language in social situations. In the new era,many cities in China match their place names with English versions. The Chinese government puts a lot of effort into this field to solve this problem,prescribing the tran-scription of Chinese place names only with Pinyin,not foreign languages.
