This paper makes explanation of the following three issues relied on the entry ti(替) in volume eight of Kuangmiuzhengsu(匡谬正俗), and draws preliminary conclusions:(1) The source and generation time of ti(替) which means replace. Its evolution in the Northern and Southern Dynasties, Sui Dynasty and Tang Dynasty. Ti(替) had the meaning of replace, which was extended from its original meaning. It arose no later than the 5th century. Since Sui Dynasty and Tang Dynasty, it had become a commonly used word and had widely accepted by different social strata and social groups. Its meaning and usage had also been further developed.(2)The usage of ti(替) which means replace in Tang Dynasty. ■ is the mistaken word of ■ in Kuangmiuzhengsu. ■ is a popular character of ti(替) which means replace at that time.(3) The demise of the word ■. It's true that Yanshigu's work of regular script played a role in the demise of the word ■.However the main point is that the change of the word probably can adjust the use of itself.
