Objective To study the value of triple echo gradient echo sequence and roll-MRS in detection and measur- ment steatosis in nonalcoholic fatty liver disease rat model. Methods Twenty five male NAFLD rat model and five S D rats served as control underwent MR triple echo gradient echo sequence and 1H-MRS examination. The content of the lipid was measured on MR and MRS, and the results were compared with histologic findings. Results The content of the lipid quantified by triple echo gradient echo sequence and ill-MRS was 16.8% ±6.7 and 27.8% ± 9.9, which had highly cor- relation ( r = 0. 957 ,P 〈 0. 0001 ). The content of lipid quantified by histology was 43.3% ± 18.8, which had highly corre- lated with that quantified by triple echo gradient echo sequence ( r = 0. 984,P 〈 0. 0001 ). The results of MR and histology had great agreement using Bland & Ahman analysis Conclusion Triple echo gradient echo sequence can be used to accu- rately quantify fat in vivo in an animal model of hepatic steatosis and may serve as a quantitative hiomarker of hepatic steatosis.
