摘　　要：《卡斯特桥市长》与《受活》侧重表现现代工业文明侵入农村所导致的乡土中人悲剧性生存的主题,着重从观察城市文明以及权利欲望如何破坏乡土的生活方式与扭曲人的灵魂的角度,来揭示小说隐含的寓言意义。Both The Mayor of Casterbridge by Thomas Hardy and Life on Fire by Yanlianke emphasize the tragic living of human beings caused by industrial civilization＇s invading into rural land.This paper makes an attempt to explore the allegoric meaning of both novels by exhibiting how urban civilization and desire on power destroy the rural lifestyle and gradually twist people＇s soul.
