Objective To determine the expression of microRNA-200a (miR-200a) in hepatic cancer tissues and its clinical significance. Methods The levels of expression of miR-200a in hepatic cancer cell lines, and in 58 cases of hepatic cancer and their adjacent normal liver tissues were detected by real time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR). The relations of the levels of miR-200a expression with clinicopathologic features were analyzed. Results RT-PCR revealed that the expression of miR-200a was down regulated in hepatic cancer cell lines and hepatic cancer tissues. The expression of miR-200a was associated with tumor invasiveness and metastasis in patients with hepatic cancer. The expression of miR-200a in patients with tumor invasiveness and metastasis was significantly lower than those without (P 〈 0.05). There was no significant difference with regard to sex, age, hepatitis status, tumor size, TNM staging and the level of AFP (all P 〉0.05). Conclusion The expression of miR-200a was downregnlated in hepatic cancer tissue. There was a significant relation to tumor invasiveness and metastasis.
