ObjectiveTo investigate the relationship between plasma estradiol (E2) levels and the incidence of acute cerebral infarction in postmenopausal women with acute cerebral infarction.MethodsEighty-five female patients with post-menopausal acute cerebral infarction treated in the Third People's Hospital of Anyang from January 2016 to December 2016 were selected as the observation group and 60 healthy post-menopausal women undergoing physical examination in hospital were selected as the control group. The clinical data of the two groups were compared.ResultsThe plasma estradiol level in the observation group was significantly lower than that in the control group (P<0.05). The decrease of estrogen level was not related to the risk factors of cerebral infarction; estrogen levels in the observation group were positively correlated with insulin sensitivity index (ISI), high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), and negatively correlated with high sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and plasma insulin (FINS).ConclusionsHormone is not an independent risk factor for cerebral infarction in postmenopausal women. Estrogen may play a role in cerebral infarction by affecting the inflammatory index and metabolism of postmenopausal women.
