Objective To investigate the roles of Fas and bc1-2 protein expression and abnormal DNA ploidy in the occurrence and development of esophageal carcinoma. Methods A flow cytometry and a cellular immunofluoresence technique were used to quantitatively measure the Fas and bc1-2 protein and DNA content in tissues from 70 patients with esophageal carcinoma, respectively. Results 36 cases were found out with abnormal ploidy (51.4%), and 34 with diploidy (48.6%); all the DNA and proliferation indexes and stage Scellular radio in abnormal ploidy tumor were higher than those in diploidy tumor, but there were no significant differences between them (P>0.05); 42 cases with positive Fas protein expression (60.0%), 65 with positive bc1-2 protein (92.9%), the Fas protein expression had closely correlation with tumor pathology stage (P<0.05); there were no significant difference between positive expressive rate and expression content in Fas and bc1-2 in abnormal ploidy and diploidy tumors (P>0.05). Conclusions The abnormal DNA ploidy, Fas and bc1-2 protein expression play an important role in the occurrence and development of esophageal carcinoma.
