摘  要:纽曼先于达尔文而在神学中以进化论的意识和精神来论述基督宗教教义发展问题,他被称为"神学上的达尔文";当达尔文的进化论正式被提出后,纽曼对之采取一种辩证的态度,他并不完全拒斥科学意义上的进化论,肯定进化论与圣经并不相互冲突,而且认为基督信仰可以弥补进化论的逻辑不足;另一方面,他却反对作为意识形态的进化论,认为科学与宗教有各自的领地,不可相互僭越。纽曼的进化意识不仅带来对现代英国科学与宗教关系的新认识,而且对后来罗马天主教会接纳进化论及其现代神学建构也具有一定的影响。In the field of theology, prior to Darwin, J. H. Newman had discussed the development of Christian doctrine with evolutional awareness and spirits, therefore he was called 'Darwin in the fi eld of theology'. Newman adopted a dialectical attitude to Darwin's theory of evolution when it was put forward. On the one hand, he did not completely reject evolutionism as science, affirming that evolutionism did not clash with Scripture, instead, Christianity could make up for the logical deficiency of evolutionism. On the other hand, however, he opposed evolutionism as ideology, holding that science and religion should be applied to their own respective fi eld and should not arrogate each other. Newman's evolutional awareness not only reshapes people's understandings of the relationship between science and religion in modern England, but also pushes the Roman Catholic to accept evolutionism to some degree. What's more, it also exerts some infl uence on its modern theological construction.
