摘 要:本文考察艾丽丝·门罗作为短篇小说家获得诺贝尔文学奖这一文化事件,探讨作家为什么会选择短篇小说这种相对边缘的文类。文章认为,门罗的短篇小说家身份与其作为加拿大作家与女性作家的身份息息相关,作家对于文类的选择经历了从被动到主动,从自发到自觉的过程。文章同时对门罗的短篇小说艺术做出评价,强调作家的创作偏重感性主义的"意会",进而阐述门罗四个重要的叙述表现手段,即回顾视角、多声部、投射性与含混性。This paper views Munro's winning Nobel Prize for Literature as a significant cultural phenomenon,for it's the very first time that a short story writer has won such a glory.The paper goes on to explore the cultural drive of Munro's choice for such a marginal genre.It argues that Munro's identity as a short story writer is closely connected with her identity as a Canadian writer and a woman writer,and that her focus on the short story genre is first conditioned by circumstances but later becomes an inner preference.The paper also tries to summarize the major artistic features of Munro's writing.Holding the opinion that Munro's writing puts an emphasis on sensory perception,it cites examples to illustrate four important narrative techniques of Munro:retrospective narration,multi-voicedness,projection,and ambiguity.
