摘　　要：大学英语课堂"沉默现象"普遍存在于英语教学中,严重影响着英语教学效果,成了我国英语教学发展的桎梏。英语作为一门语言,交际性是其最大功能,而大学英语课堂上的沉默现象体现了其功能的缺失,艺体专业学生在大学英语课堂上的沉默尤为突出,因此打破课堂沉默是教师刻不容缓的任务之一。The＆quot;silence phenomenon＆quot;in college English class is ubiquitous in English teaching, having been seriously affecting the effect of English teaching and hindering the development of China＇s English teaching. The most important function of English as a language is communication, but the silence phenomenon in college English class reflects the deficiency of the function, so it is an urgent task of teachers to break the silence. The silence of art and sports students in college English class is particularly prominent.
