当代美国粤籍传统侨团的延续与变迁

摘　　要：二战前,美国九成以上的华侨华人祖籍都是广东,他们建立了发达的社团体系。二战后,这些传统侨团大多依旧存续,现今不少已达一百多年的历史,不过由于新移民和土生华裔加入其中的越来越少,其活动能量和影响力远不及战前。随着时代变迁,它们的主要宗旨已从早期的互扶互助转向帮助华人融入美国社会,其以往所担负的一些功能转由政府部门或专业性社会服务机构负责。不过,它们在支持华社文教、赞助慈善公益、振兴华埠工商业,以及争取华人在美国的平等权益和福利等方面依然发挥着不容忽视的作用。它们积极参与美国政治,是中国海峡两岸需要争取的主要侨团。Before WWW II,over 90% of Chinese in U. S originated from Guangdong. They built a comprehensive system of organizations. After WWW II,most of these traditional organizations still exist,and quite many of them are over one-hundred years old now. However,the activity and influence of these organizations have been weakening in the contemporary era,because less and less of the new coming Guangdong immigrants and native-born Chinese tend to join these organizations. The main aim of these organizations has changed from solidarity and mutual-aid to help Chinese integrated into American Society; some of their traditional functions have turned to be responsibilities of government and professional social service institutions. However,they still play an non-ignorable role in supporting and promoting Chinese education and charity among compatriots,as well as industrial commercial development in Chinatown,and also in struggling for equal rights,interest and welfare of Chinese in U. S.They are still one of the main organizations that PRC and Taiwan government want to woo,at the same time they also actively take part in American politics.
