摘  要:会馆学校经济形态及社会效益是20世纪前期新加坡华人社会经济史的一个重要方面。在当时殖民地社会背景下,会馆承担着发展所属社群教育事业之职责,会馆办学遂成为新加坡华人社会兴办教育的主要形式。会馆学校承载了殖民时期新加坡华人社会经济之特性。经费作为会馆办学经济活动的内容,对会馆学校的生存与发展至关重要,是连接会馆学校与华人社会经济互动之载体。透过会馆学校经费之考察,可以透视会馆学校与华人社会经济之互动,进而思考殖民地社会背景下华人会馆之办学机制。这种发展华文教育之历史经验亦可为当代东南亚华人社会民间办学提供借鉴与参考。The economic and social benefits of the schools running by Chinese Guild Hall are important aspects of the Chinese social economic history in Singapore in the early 20th Century. During this period when Singapore was still a colonized society, Chinese Guild Hall undertook the responsibility of developing education within the community, and schools ran by Chinese guild halls (which was later referred to as Hui Kuan School) became the main mode of education in the Chinese society in Singapore. Hui Kuan schools bore the socio-economic characteristics of the Chinese in colonial Singapore. As part of the economic activities of the schools, funding was crucial to the survival and development of the schools and served as the carrier of the interactions between the schools and the socio-economy of the Chinese. Through the window of the funds, we can examine the interaction between the schools and Chinese society, and think about the mechanism of education in a colonized society. Contemporary Chinese community in Southeast Asia may also benefit from the study of such experience.
