摘　　要：基于原始期刊文献分析和考证,对近代水利学家、教育家周宗莲的生平、教育背景及其水利科学研究贡献做初步研究。他率先主张水利救国,对拱坝、湖南水利、长江和洞庭湖的关系和论理对策以及城市土地公有制度等方面做出了重要的科学研究成果。抗战时期,他将欧洲先进的工程教育理念,特别是将英国的工程教育体制引入偏僻贫瘠的西部地区,为西北乃至新中国培养了一批工程技术人才,极大地推动了西部地区高等工程教育的发展,开创了西部高等工程教育的新纪元。Based on the analysis and textual research of the original journal articles, to initially study the life, edu- cational background and scientific research of modem water conservancy scientist and the educator Zhou Zonglian. He was the first to advocate the water to save the nation and had made important achievements on Arch darn, Hu- nan water conservancy and the relationship and ethical countermeasures of the Yangtze River and Dongting Lake and city land communal system and other aspects. During the Anti Japanese War, he introduced the advanced con- cept of European engineering education to remote and arid western region, especially the engineering education sys- tem of England, and cultivated a group of engineering and technical personnel in northwest and whole China, which greatly promoted the development of higher engineering education in the western region, and created a new era of western higher engineering education.
