Objective: To discuss the expression and significance of Ang- 2 and VEGF in multiple myeloma. Methods : Serum levels of Ang - 2 and VEGF in 20 initial, 14 remission (3 eases of complete remission, 11 cases of partial remission), 18 disease progression and 16 relapsed patients with multiple myeloma were determined by enzyme -linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) , and compared with normal controls. Results:The serum levels of Ang -2 and VEGF in initial, disease progression and relapsed patients with multiple myeloma was significantly higher than that of control group (P 〈 0.01 ). Compared with the initial group , the serum levels of Ang -2 and VEGF in remis- sion patients decreased significantly(P 〈0.01 ) and had no significantly difference from those in control group (P 〉 0.05). In disease progression and relapsed patients, the serum levels of Ang - 2 and VEGF were significantly higher than those in remission patients (P 〈 0.01 ). There were positive correlation between the serum levels of Ang -2 and VEGF in initial multiple myeloma( r = 0.48, P 〈 0.05 ). Conclusion: Serum levels of Ang - 2 and VEGF are closely related with occurrence of multiple myeloma and may have synergistic effect, Ang - 2 and VEGF may be a new target in the treatment of muhiple myeloma.
