摘 要:随着经济全球化进程的加快以及世界经济的飞速发展,中国的对外贸易在整个经济活动中所占的比重越来越大。商务英语信函作为对外经贸活动的重要媒介,其本质是一种语言运用的艺术,不可避免地烙上西方修辞的印记。西方修辞学通过挖掘语言的象征力量影响人们的思想和行为,著名修辞学家亚里士多德提出的三大修辞策略即诉诸理性、诉诸人格、诉诸情感,这对于建构与优化商务英语信函话语起着重要的作用。三种诉诸手段在各种类型的商务英语信函撰写中缺一不可,三者相互交织,各有侧重,这就要求写信者在准确地分析特定修辞形势和修辞受众的基础上巧妙地运用修辞策略,有效地提升商务英语信函话语的表达效果,才能更好地扩大潜在商机,促进中国对外贸易的发展。With the acceleration of globalization and the fast development of world economy,Chinese foreign trade accounts for a larger proportion in the whole economy. As an essential medium of international business ex-changes,business English correspondence is an art of using language in essence and all kinds of business communi-cations are inevitably stamped with the characteristics of rhetoric which is committed to exerting an influence on people’ s attitude and behavior through the symbolic power of language. Three rhetorical strategies,reckoned by the famous rhetorician Aristotle,are essential to the construction and optimization of English business correspondences, contributing to the enhancement of the soft power of China. Since the three strategies are indispensable to each oth-er,mutually intertwined with each other and highlighted in different situations,writers should tactically apply them to the composition of business correspondences based on a careful analysis of the specific rhetorical situation and rhetorical audience,thus enhancing the effect of business correspondences,enlarging potential opportunities and pro-moting our foreign trade.
