摘　　要：《放逐伊甸》再现了诗意的20世纪80年代向功利的90年代演进的过程,描述了受人文主义洗礼的一代人怎样被时代所裹挟、挣扎、失落及顿悟的艰难历程。当代中国知识分子自幼被灌输"士"的责任意识,"先天下之忧而忧",肩负着"五四"精神的传承,被铸就了"重精神、轻物质"的人格体系,但在社会价值体系被颠覆下的时代,当代知识分子面临着生存发展的挣扎和灵魂的拷问与裂变,这是一种暂时的精神"短路",还是一种"现代性"的必然?是一类人的性格悲剧,还是社会历史的悲剧?较之于同类题材的写作,作家的海外身份与哲学、宗教意识观照出了哪些全新的意义?新世纪前十年早已过去,以上问题仍没有答案,反而生发出了更深的意义。The novel From Eden to Exile reveals the process of how the poetic,humanistic 1980 s slid into 1990 s,a utilitarian,soul-lost age,and how the ＂Intellectual Generation＂is considered outcast in the ＂Modern Time＂. What we should learn from the novel is that： This ＂Intellectual Generation＂has not only ＂concerned about people＇s weal and woe but not me ＂,which was one among the Chinese heritages, but also carried forward the ＂May Fourth Spirit ＂. In the movement of regaining humanitarianism in 1980 s,they have accomplished the building of their integrated personality ＂valuing righteousness but belittling profit ＂. When the New Concept Time came,was ＂the soul torturing ＂ a temporary phenomenon or a chronic outcome？ Were their tragedies mainly from personalities or social ingredients？ How many predicaments have the ＂Modern Men＂been facing with？ How long their driftingabout fortune would last？ What kinds of details and complexities have the novel displayed？ Has the authoress put some new meanings and understandings as an expatriate to the same story and subject？These are the answers we try to dig out from this novel and discuss. Over the first ten years of the new century,we have realized that the work has raised a long-term topic with a vision for future,because those faced by the heroes are still there.
