摘　　要：在西方文学史上,诗和诗人的崇高地位并非与生俱来,而是经历了长期的质疑、抵制、甚至是蛮横恶毒的攻击。历史上有众多的文论家和诗人们为了诗的尊严与荣耀进行过争论和辩护。其中,英国文艺复兴时期的诗人兼理论家菲利普·锡德尼爵士,通过自己那份流光溢彩的答辩书——《为诗辩护》,探讨了诗的本质与社会功用。梳理《为诗辩护》中的基本美学思想,客观正确地分析锡德尼文艺批评思想的缘起、意义和局限性,在诗歌和诗人地位依然受挑战的今天,重温锡德尼为诗所做的辩护,一方面有助于我们纵向地把握当时英国的美学与文艺思潮,深刻理解文艺复兴到来的必然;另一方面能引导我们正确看待现代诗歌存在的意义。In the history of western literature,the existence of poetry and poets have been questioned and resisted fiercely.There are a lot of theorists and poets who have defended the dignity and honor of poetry. Philip Sidney,the poet as well as theorist during English Renaissance,probed into the nature and social functions of poetry in his outstanding work The Defence of Poesie. This paper will mainly focus on analyzing its basic aesthetic ideas,objectively exploring the background,meaning and disadvantages of Sidney＇s critical thinking. With the review of those above,the paper will help us understand the present trend of literary ideas and the necessity of the coming of Renaissance. It will also help us correctly deal with the situation of modern poetry.
