Underlining of the foreigness in the current context of multiculturalism is beyond reproach. This underlining as well as those intentional and cultural--hybrid representations, however, will inevitably bring forth understanding falsehood and decultuartion, if it is detached from the real intention of the author and the acceptability of the target culture. The kind of representation, if it stresses the foreigness only in the formal and strategic way, is merely a sort of pseudo--adequacy which should be averted in transcultural communication. The translation of Japanese Kanshi by Burton Watson, which highlights the formal foreigness but disregards the accuracy and the adequacy of the source text, distorts the intention and the meaning of the source message. This phenomenon needs to be highly vigilant, in particular, in the process of Chinese Literature "going out".
