摘　　要：文章从认知语言学的研究视角出发,探究了英语前置修饰语在提供名词信息精密级阶中所发挥的作用。分别探究了英语提供宏观背景信息的指称系统;提供事物数量信息的量化系统以及为名词表征提供主客观信息的形容词表征系统。这三个前置语表征系统为言者信息编码和解码提供了无限的可能性。显然,信息发出者前置语的选择反映了他对事体及现象存现的物理空间和心理空间的认知,同时也为信息接收者对信息的解码提供了可能性。信息的交际效度取决于交际双方对事体和现象存现的物理、心理和文化空间的整合程度。This paper aims to explore the functions of English premodifiers in provision of the different scales of specificity for in- formation representations of English noun categories from the perspective of cognitive linguistics. Three information continuums are con- strueted for the sequence of English premodifiers. They are consisted of reference system for presenting general background information for nouns , the quantification system for quantifying nouns, the descriptive adjective system for giving different extents of subjectivity/ objectivity information for nouns. These three premodifying systems manifest the infinite potentialities in semantic representations. It is evident that different sequences of the three English premodifying systems display the different cognition of the phenomena existing in physical and mental spaces for information producers. The communicative efficiency depends on the degree for integrating information of physical, mental and cultural spaces from communicators＇ aspects.
