Objective To investigate the effect of serum brain-derived neurotrophic factors for patients with depression treated with therapy without seizure electroconvulsive. Methods 160 cases with depression were classified by random number table method based on sequence number of hospital admission ,odd-numbered cases were regarded as study group receiving therapy of seizure electroconvulsive and escitalopram ,while even-numbered cases as control group with escitalopram treat-ment.Results BDNF levels ,HAMD scores ,HAMA scores ,CGI scores and cognitive function in two groups after treatment were significantly higher than that before therapy (P〈0.05) ,which had no difference in two groups before treatment(P〉0.05). The effective rate with 92.50% in study group was prior to 82.50% in control group (P〈0.05). In addition ,cases in two groups had no adverse reactions such as sexual dysfunction. Conclusion Adopting therapy without seizure electroconvul-sive in patients with depression can effectively improve cognitive function ,considered as a safe and effective treatment ,which should be widely applied.
