Objective To investigate the relationship of high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) and homocysteine levels with recurrence of paroxysmal atrial fibrillation after catheter ablation. Methods A total of 126 patients with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation underwent radiofrequency catheter ablation. All patients were followed up for 1 year and were allocated to non-recurrence group or recurrence group according to recurrence of atrial fibrillation or not.Plasma levels of hs-CRP and homocysteine were determined before procedure and at one-year follow-up.Results Plasma hs-CRP and homocysteine levels pre-and post-procedure were higher in recurrence group than that in Non-recurrence group.Plasma hs-CRP and homocysteine in non-recurrence group had a downward trend, while the recurrent group had a rising trend. And we had found that the plasma levels of hs-CRP were positively correlated with homocysteine. Conclusions The levels of hs-CRP and homocysteine are closely correlated with recurrence of paroxysmal atrial fibrillation after catheter ablation. It is valuable to measure hs-CRP and homocysteine for predicting recurrence of paroxysmal atrial fibrillation after radiofrequency catheter ablation.
