摘　　要："外史"由最早的史官演变为文学尤其是古代小说的一个文体概念,具有十分积极且重要的小说价值。首先,"外史"作为小说有两个基本含义,一是神怪化的叙述方式;二是生活化的故事内容。其次,"外史"作为小说,实乃当时一批小说家试图摆脱小说为正史附庸的努力,表现出了强烈的尊体意识,具有积极的小说史意义。最后,"外史"这种独特的小说价值在与"演义""野史""艳史"等题名的比较中表现得尤为突出。Wai Shi, evolving from the earliest historiographer to literature, is especially a stylistic concept of ancient fiction, which has a positive and significant value of fiction. First, Wai Shi, as a fiction, has two basic meanings. One is the fictional narrative mode, the other is the stories of living. Secondly, Wai Shi, as a fiction, is actually an effort of novelists breaking away from the situation of fictions being the vassal of official history, showing a strong sense of respecting for the style. Finally, the special fictional value of Wai Shi is especially prominent compared with the other rifles such as Yan Yi, Ye Shi and Yan Shi, etc.
