Objective To explore the significance of platelet count (PLT), erythrocyte sedi- mentationrate (ESR) and C- reactive protein (CRP) levels in patients with ulcerative colitis (UC) and intervention function of Hongteng chang'an decoction. Methods Seventy patients with active UC and thirty healthy people were collected. The differences of PLT, ESR and CRP levels in patients with different degree of UC were compared, and the correlation between levels and se- vere degree of disease were analyzed. Results There were significant differences of PLT, ESR and CRP levels in patients with different degree of UC, which were also significantly higher than those of the healthy people (P 〈 0.05), and the levels of these indexes were correlated with extent of the disease ( r = 0.37, P 〈 0.05). After treatment of Hongteng chang' an decoction, serum PLT, ESR and CRP levels decreased significantly in patients with active UC when compared with the levels before treatment (P 〈 0.05). Conclusion Levels of PLT, ESR and CRP can reflect the severe degree of active UC patients, and the Hongteng chang' an decoction can reduce the PLT, ESR and CRP levels.
