摘　　要：厄普代克"《红字》三部曲"中的最后一部小说《S.》以霍桑的代表作《红字》为前文本,从海丝特的视角出发,叙述了莎拉——现代版海丝特在当代背景下所面临的命运和困境。将《红字》与《S.》两个前后文本所体现的女性意识进行互文性解读,有助于探究美国两位伟大作家的女性意识,了解美国文化发展中女性思想的延续性与转化性。S. is the last novel of Updike＇s Scarlet Letter Trilogy. Based on Hawthorne＇s masterpiece The Scarlet Letter, from the perspective of Hester, it descn＇bes Sam--modem Hester＇s fate and dilemma in contemporary background. This article explores the female consciousness in S. and The Scarlet Letter from the perspective of intertexuality. It helps to explore the female conscious- ness of the two great American writers and learn about the continuity and transformation of feminine thought in American cultural development.
