摘  要:商务英语中存在着两个根隐喻"经济是人"和"经济是容器,财富是容器中的液体",并且可以通过隐喻的"恒定原则"和Lakoff和Johnson提出的"本体隐喻"之一"人体是个容器"联系起来。而按照徐盛桓的"外延内涵传承说",隐喻是概念域间的内涵相似关系。从理论上推断,这种相似关系可以转化为相邻关系,故根隐喻"经济是人"可以作为统领商务英语中所有隐喻表达的基本隐喻。在实证研究中,文章通过"有声思维法"考察了3×3组共27名受试对隐喻的理解,证实概念间的相似关系和相邻关系确实可以"互通",为商务英语语篇提供了统一的隐喻解释。There exist two radical metaphors in business English,namely,ECONOMY IS HUMAN and ECONOMY IS A CONTAINER AND WEALTH IS THE FLUID IN IT.According to the Invariance Principle, they could be integrated if we use the ontological metaphor HUMAN IS A CONTAINER proposed by Lakoff& Johnson. On the other hand,Xu’s Inheritance of Denotation-Connotation Theory states that metaphors arise from the similarity between the connotations of the target domain and the source domain. This paper presumes that the similarity between the two domains be transformed into the contiguity and that the metaphor ECONO-MY IS HUMAN be an Epitomized Metaphor ( EM) of all the metaphorical expressions in business English. An empirical research on the existence of the EM is implemented where the“Think-aloud Protocols”are used to probe into the 27 (grouped by 3×3) subjects’ understanding of the metaphorical expressions. The results of the experiment give credence to our presumption on the transformability between the similarity and the contiguity and verify that the EM could serve as a unified conceptual metaphor in business English.
