摘 要:20世纪初,庚子赔款本是清政府所需承担的巨额赔款,但美国政府出于自身利益的考量,率先将其退还给清政府用于中国教育事业。通过对美国退还庚子赔款源起,庚款的用途及其受益者在后来的贡献等方面的考察可以发现,美国退化庚子赔款的款项用于中国兴办教育及派遣留美学生过程中,不知不觉地打开了中国真正意义上近代教育的大门,归国的留美学生也成为中国近代教育事业发展过程中的中坚力量,为中国近代教育的发展奠定了良好的基础。Boxer indemnity was a huge reparations that the Qing government was forced to bear. But out of the consideration of their self-interest, the American government took the first step to return it to the Qing government for China's education. By integrating the origin, the designated use of the Boxer indemnity, and the contribution of beneficiaries in the later investigation, we find the Boxer indemnity unknowingly has opened the gate of Chinese modern education in the real practice of its usage in China's education and sending overseas students to stay in the United States. Later returned overseas students had become the backbone in the process of the development of the Chinese modern education cause, and laid a good foundation for the development of Chinese modern education.
