Memory studies concerning Holocaust literature focuses on the effects of traumatic events on Holocaust survivors and their children. Scholars use different terms to define and understand Holocaust memory. Among them,Marianne Hirsch proposes "postmemory " to describe the "memory " of those who have never experienced Holocaust. Chinese American woman writer Lan Samantha Chang's novella Hunger describes traumatic experiences and effects around and after immigration, which bears similarities with those in Holocaust literature. In light of this, this paper analyzes the traumatic consequences caused by immigration in comparison with those by Holocaust. Taking daughter Anna as example, this article,by analyzing how immigration postmemory develops and changes over time, suggests rational ways to get over postmemory and to rebuild oneself against doomed fate.
