The effects of environmental factors( pH,salinity, ions and sunlight) on the interaction between trivalent or pentavalent As / Sb and dissolved organic matter( DOM) in sediments from the Yangtze Estuary( the north and south nearshore, the river channel and the adjacent coastal area) were studied using the fluorescence emission spectrum and excitation emission matrix spectra. The results showed that DOM fluorescence intensity increased with the pH increasing, which may be due to the increase of the protein-like components( protein-like peak B and D). The protein-like eak B and D were quenched obviously by Sb^(3+). The little influence of p H on the interaction between As / Sb and DOM was observed. A decrease in fluorescence intensity was found after the addition of NaCl in the DOM-As / Sb solution. The addition of Ca^(2+)decreased the quench effect of As / Sb on the protein-like components. This inhibition effect increased with the increase of Ca^(2+)concentration. No influence of Mg^(2+)was observed. Sunlight could lead to the degradation of DOM itself. The fluorescence intensity of protein-like peak D significantly weakened with the addition of As^(5+)in the sunlight.
