Objective To evaluate the clinical effect of water infusion in colonoscopy examination. Methods Three hundred patients undergoing non-anesthesia colonoscopy examination from January 2014 to January 2015 were randomly divided into water infusion colonoscopy group(water group) and traditional air insuflation colonoscopy group(gas group). The cecal intubation rate, cecal intubation time, withdrawal time of colonoscope, abdominal pain score and satisfaction rate were compared between the two groups. Results The cecal intubation rate, cecal intubation time and withdrawal time of colonoscope were not significantly different between the two groups. However, the abdominal pain score was significantly lower in water group than in air group(3.59±0.99 vs 6.05±1.58, P 〈0.01 ). Furthermore, the satisfaction rate was significantly higher in water group than in gas group ( 87.3 % vs 39.3 %, P 〈 0.01 ). Conclusion Water infusion colonoscopy can obviously relieve discomfort of the patients during the operation and increase the will of patients to colonoscopy examination once again. Water infusion colonoscopy has clinical application value in the completion of colonoscopy and follow-up colonoscopy of patients.
