Objective: To investigate whether the serum levels of transforming growth factor beta 1( TGF-β_1) and vascular endothelial growth factor( VEGF) are biomarkers of response to the chemotherapy.Method: A total of 118 subjects were recruited at our hospital between April 2012 and April 2014,including58 NSCLC patients receiving chemotherapy( gemcitabine plus carboplatin)( NSCLC group) and 60 healthy controls( control group).Serum TGF-β1 and VEGF levels were measured before and after chemotherapy using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay( ELSIA),and the serum TGF-β1 and VEGF levels were measured when undergoing physical medical examination. The clinical efficacy was evaluated after chemotherapy. Result: Compared to control group, the serum TGF-β1and VEGF levels were significantly higher in NSCLC group before chemotherapy( P〈0.05). Importantly, serum TGF-β1 and VEGF levels decreased significantly after chemotherapy in CR+PR group in comparison with before chemotherapy( P〈0.05). By contrast, serum TGF-β1 and VEGF levels were markedly higher after chemotherapy in the SD+PD group in comparison with before chemotherapy( P〈0.05). Conclusion: The serum TGF-β1 and VEGF levels of NSCLC patients were raised, which can show the patients' respense to GC regimen
