摘　　要：19世纪的《北美评论》伴随美国文人要建立自己的文学,脱离英国传统的束缚的呼声应运而生。詹姆斯·拉塞尔·洛威尔是《北美评论》创立以来最重要的评论家之一。他在文学的民族性的问题上态度是传统的,但并不保守,反对为了追求所谓的民族性而与欧洲文化传统决裂的观点。他的文学批评是扎根于英国的经典文学的。洛威尔早年受浪漫主义的影响很深,文学评论体现一种很强烈的个人情感主义;到了后期,他的批评的态度变得冷静而理性。The North American Review was published in the 19 th century with the appealing of the American men of letters to construct a national literature. James Russell Lowell was one of the most important critics of The North American Review since its founding. His attitude toward nationality was conventional,but not conservative,and he was against abandoning totally European tradition to pursue nationality. His literary criticism was rooted in English classics. Lowell＇s early criticism was strongly emotional under the influence of romanticism. But his criticism turned to be rational in his later days.
