In the view of Henry Lefebvre et al,space has an ideology. In the context of race, space reflects the racist ideology; while in the context of patriarchy, space also embodies the ideology of sexism. In Toni Morrison's novels, black women are oppressed by the ideology of racism and sexism in space, thus having lost their selfawareness and identity as well as been in the state of marginalization and otherness. However, black women can also utilize the power of space to undermine the space of hierarchy and privilege so as to rebuild their own space and to reshape their own identity. As such,Toni Morrison has fully tried this method in her novels so as to find a way for black women amid the racial discrimination and gender oppression.
